let's dish

Guess what we've begun collecting here and there...
There’s nothing more perfect to turn a bad day around than hitting up my favorite antique stores. It’s quite therapeutic... seriously, give it a whorl! Currently, I’ve been on the lookout for aqua mason jars and pretty china. None of which match, but still work perfectly together to create a messy-sophisticated-stylish table display. Since our small collection has been super popular, we decided this weekend will be best spent in Round Top {for an antique show like none other} where we will be adding to Sweet Sunday Event’s mix-matched china inventory! Eeek, I can't wait!

a twist on fall flowers

The bride is allowed to act out in response to the immense stress brought on by wedding planning. The table linens must match the bridesmaid dresses {exactly}. Fall thru Winter means dark flowers only. I don’t know who came up with these silly little rules, but I am all about breaking them…

Okay, Bridezilla, it’s not acceptable to scream or yell at those around you… you can, however, cry it out {at some point we all do!}. Take it from me {someone who had each of her bridesmaids wear a different style dress, in different colors and no linens, just a wooden table}, your guests won’t care that the dress tone is a deeper midnight blue than the navy linen draped on the table... and neither should you.

Naturally, colors around us become darker in the Fall, slowing dying in the Winter. But lucky for you, us florists get flowers from all over the world. So while foliage is dry and dead in Winter in America, it’s Summer in Australia where colors are bright and lush. Which would you prefer?! Yeah, me too. But if you just can’t shake the idea that your favorite pinks and yellows must be replaced with browns and burgundy for your Fall wedding, then just mix the two…

with icing on top

It's officially the first day of Fall! Yes, I am sad to say goodbye to Summer, but after shopping last weekend my heart fluttered at the sight of colorful scarves, grungy boots and corduroy skinnies… oh my, I can’t wait ‘til it gets cooler!

Anyway, moving on to more important things… CAKES! If you haven't noticed, I've become a bit fascinated by cakes lately. Especially more whimsical-fun cakes…

wedding design: bre + adam

Ohhh, and it's Monday again. But at least we get to share pretty things! Remember when I mentioned Bre {the bride whose style was my style} and Adam {the groom whose only request was symmetry}… Well, my favorite photog {Cory of Jackson Wright Photography}came through, once again, with images that captured all the little details that made this wedding completely seamless and one of a kind. Overall design and floral arrangements by yours truly {moi}, making this wedding a true Sweet Sunday Event Design.

imperfect perfection

It’s strange. I am normally a perfectionist. I like things to match. I like symmetry.  And I hate when something’s out of place-- boy, does that drive me crazy. {Clearly, I run a tight ship around the house… my poor husband!} But when it comes to designing a look I all of that goes straight out the window.  I’m inspired by the flawed. A little rust, a few scratches and peeling paint can sometimes make an object so beautifully imperfect. The mix and match of items that don’t look so great as they stand alone, but together they fit oh-so perfectly to complete the look. That’s what I love about design.

a nude hue

I’ve embraced the fact that I have a lot of old lady in me. I love being a homebody, I get grouchy at times for no good reason, I love cardigans and sequins and subtle colors.

Case in point: A couple weeks ago I met up with a girlfriend for our monthly pedicure which, just so happens, to turn into a little gossip session. She sticks to her favorite-go to color... come to think of it; I’ve never seen her toes in anything but red! Me, on the other hand, I like to change it up... you know, from a tanish beige to a pinkish beige. She calls me on it each time, but that day I was referred to as a Grandma… by the pedicurist {strangely, I have heard this before!}. After today’s post, you may concur. But the nude hue will always be my favorite no matter what you may call me!

work in progress

Remember back in the day when I was wishin’-n-hopin’-n-thinkin'-n-prayin' for a trailer? Well, lookie-lookie at what the hubs and I picked up last night! I know it may not look like much right now, but just you wait…
Have a fantastic Friday and an even better weekend! I have a sneeeeeky suspicion that our weekend will be spent working on this bad boy, but at least we'll have a break Saturday night with friends {after all, my husband would just die if he missed his Longhorn football}.

fall formality

Did you know the first day of Fall is just around the corner? September 22, to be exact. But in my mind, summer ends once school begins. So farewell to a summer of bright colors and casual affairs, and hello to deeper tones and more formal gatherings.

rain, rain, go away

The river is a-runnin’ wild, houses flooded in Georgetown, GISD is closed with 19 classrooms under water and Sweet Sunday Event’s big brother company {A to Z Rental} is all out of vacuums and fans while still receiving countless requests. With the rain and all, do you think I could rock this look today get away with it?!
Stay dry {and safe} today!

a few of my favorite things

I haven’t shared my current obsession in a while, so here we go…

ONE: Metallics. Have you breezed through the Martha Stewart Wedding magazine while standing in the checkout line at the grocery store yet? No? Well, then you are missing out. Geez, these colors speak straight to my heart.
TWO: Swans. Is there a more regal, elegant, charming creature on earth? I vote NO {for now, at least}! Btw, did you know swans mate for life… how fantastic is that?!
THREE: Mexican Fiesta Themed Events. Growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, every birthday party my brother and I attended celebrated with a piƱata and cascarones. Back then I didn’t appreciate the traditions or history, in fact I {very much} hated violently attacking a cute papier mache animal. But now, I totally dig it all... from the bright colors and paper details to the casual and fun atmosphere.

better than expected

I already knew this past weekend was going to be great and how couldn’t it be with an extra day off work?! We planned new adventures on Burnet Road, decided to sleep in {which we needed after working 32 hrs in two days}, catching up on the DVR and a fun Labor Day BBQ, but this was never expected {only wished}…

Usually I don’t answer a call if it’s a number that isn’t preprogrammed in my phone, but since my phone number was hanging from every light post in the neighborhood, I held out hope that it was a good samaritan calling with news that they had found my lost cat. And it was. Well, actually, it was the NW Austin Animal Hospital where a sweet man brought in a cat to be scanned in hopes he was microchipped, therefore locating the owners. That lucky owner was me. How Dash {my cat} traveled across 35 and wound up in a neighborhood off Mopac is beyond me. Needless to say, Dash was pampered with lots of love and I could never thank the wonderful couple who took the time to find his owners and keep him out of harm’s way until I could pick him up. If only there were more people like them…

what. a. week. that. was.

The week started off horrible {topping it off: the loss of my favorite cat—yes, I know I shouldn’t have a favorite, but I do and I miss him like crazy}, but ended with a BANG… A big bash of love. A shindig of holy matrimony. One hell of a wedding.

It’s not often that I get to design a wedding where the bride and I completely align in style and ideas. So I’m sure you could imagine how ecstatic I was when I first met Bre and Adam. Bre wanted an understated elegance. Adam. Well he was easy… just along for the beautiful ride, but he did want balance and uniformity. And I could totally respect that, I have bit of that OCD too! Can’t wait to share more later.

Happy {extended} weekend to you all. May it be full of friends, BBQs and H2O… talk with you on Tuesday!
