rachel + david wed

Supplied with only color swatches of peach, coral and teal, and the freedom to curate the most festive backyard bash, we enthusiastically accepted the challenge. Rachel and David were the sweetest, most laid back couple a wedding designer could ask for. Their love of the outdoors and free spirits lead to the tantalizing reception your eyes are about to feast upon. A custom made arrow guided guests to the shindig followed by a canopy of crape paper streamers with the most chic lounge setup beneath the rainbow of color. Wooden tabletops adorned with peach runners and perfect imperfect loose arrangements of thistle, tulips, ranunculus, garden roses and pincushions topped it off. And don’t you know, it’s no party without a special area with a Paint by Numbers canvas!

kaci + tad wed

Our dream bride walked into our shop last November and we have had a major crush on her ever since. With inspiration from the wedding shoot of all wedding shoots, the food truck shoot over on GWS.

Kaci and Tad {the bride and groom} have a very clean, modern esthetic, but trust me, they did not lack personality and definitely weren’t scared of pattern or color. Kaci was certain chevron pattern had to be incorporate, which was PERFECTLY a-okay with us, seeing as though we are totally obsessed! The chevron pattern didn’t stop at the wedding invitations. The square arch, our carpenters so masterfully built, displayed the pattern as the red and white stripes on the straws added subtle color. And yellow and white chevron runners accented white linens on tables.

Guests were directed to each setup, as they walked through arches with citron accents and large round chalkboards. You can’t get wrong with citron!

Tabletops. Oh, the tabletops! Half of the tables displayed patterned linens and we opted for pegboard runners to tone down the busy pattern and white mod candle holders were mixed with hot pink gravel and succulents. A collection of mismatched candle holders, antlers, branches and wood slabs were the perfect combination on the remaining tables.

And did you notice the fabric feathers and braids? Of course you didn’t! Aren’t they the perfect little details to make this Modern Gypsy wedding come together swimmingly?! I just can’t stop day dreaming of how wonderful this wedding was. Just wish you could have seen it with your own to eyes, but atlas the shots taken by the talented girls of Joielala will do the trick…

a nude hue

I’ve embraced the fact that I have a lot of old lady in me. I love being a homebody, I get grouchy at times for no good reason, I love cardigans and sequins and subtle colors.

Case in point: A couple weeks ago I met up with a girlfriend for our monthly pedicure which, just so happens, to turn into a little gossip session. She sticks to her favorite-go to color... come to think of it; I’ve never seen her toes in anything but red! Me, on the other hand, I like to change it up... you know, from a tanish beige to a pinkish beige. She calls me on it each time, but that day I was referred to as a Grandma… by the pedicurist {strangely, I have heard this before!}. After today’s post, you may concur. But the nude hue will always be my favorite no matter what you may call me!

once in a lifetime

There are some things in life that you think you’ll never witness. BUT then you turn on the TV to see that David Hasselhoff really did return to recapture his role of Snapper on The Young and Restless. Or while cruising the internet, your eyes pop out of your head when you discover that IKEA really can look good…

a deco inspiration

Mirrors, silhouettes, blacks, whites, silver accent pieces, pops of color… yep, I’m starting to see the stylish theme of Art Deco making its way into weddings. If you had asked me a year ago and I would have cringed at the thought, but today I’m all for it.

the allure of stripes

“yikes, stripes...Fruit Stripe Gum... the yummy fruity one... a pocket full of fun”… I’m the only one that thinks of this jingle when the word “stripes” is spoken?! More than likely I am, but that’s okay. I loved that gum growing up! The product proudly holds claim that it is the only gum with painted-on stripes. Completely notorious for its strong but fleeting flavor. Maybe it was my childhood of stuffing my face with Fruit Stripe Gum that triggered my current obsession with stripes. Whatever it was, or is, stripes are fantastic just see for yourself…

mother nature offers fabulous inspiration

Today’s blog will probably remind you of Science class, but only waaay cooler and much more interesting. Don’t fret. Science can be fun. Just read on.

Experiment: Walk outside. Look around. Choose three colors. And without fail (as long as you find it in nature), your color selections will look great together. If you still don’t trust yourself, walk back inside. Grab a fruit. Any fruit or vegetable. A potato, pomegranate, grapefruit, whatever you may have. Now take a bite or peal it or cut it open. The shades from the outside to inside work together to create great color palette.

Okay. Still don’t really get it? Let me prove it to you. I grabbed an apple, cut it in half and this is what I saw. Red from the skin. Cream middle. A little bit of green near the center. A mustard yellowish bruise. And brown seeds. I took these five colors and created a Mother Nature inspiration board. See, it really can be that easy!

Purple Passion

Lavender...Grape...Eggplant...and every shade in between. The color purple and I have a long history. Or should I say puh-pule, as my dad laughingly reminds me (ALL.of.the.time). Hey, now that I think about it, the fact that I couldn’t pronounce my favorite color correctly as a child isn’t funny at all! I spent several elementary years in speech therapy correcting my inability to say words with the letter R in it. BeaR, Rabbit, oh and the word RaRe... so traumatizing. I still avoid using that word. Okay, moving on. Focus.

Once I was in college I decided that I wanted a solid purple bedspread with matching lavender paisley sheets, purple curtains and small purple accessories, like picture frames. A year and a half after living with purple rays burning, attacking my corneas, I soon began to hate. detest. loath purple.

Slowly, purple is creeping back into my life and repositioning itself amongst my top favorite colors. Nonetheless, my history isn’t stopping brides from effectively using shades of purple throughout their weddings. Sweet Sunday Event Rentals has had a handful of brides stop in to look for linens of the perfect purple tone to anchor their wedding palette. Those customers inspired me to create this inspiration board. Soon my vision will turn into reality as one of our show tables will be fashioned after the purple inspiration board.
