sneak a peek

It's been a month in the making, but alas, a glimpse into our fresh-one of a kind-Sweet Sunday Event designs...

Floral design, paper products, concept & color, tabletop design... yep, we do it all!

A special thanks to my favorite go-to photog, the amazing Cory of Jackson Wright Photography, to The Gatherings of Georgetown for the greatest antique pieces and the very accommodating venues of Reunion Ranch (below photo location) and San Gabriel House B&B

a down in the dumps kinda day

woke up at 5am to the living room tv blaring infomercials, then woke up late for work, spilled dry cat food all over the kitchen floor, oh and isn’t it an icky day to be running errands… oh well, guess not every day can be perfect.

on the bright side: I’m sporting a fabu new necklace {gracias Ash!}, won the trivia games on the back of my Fruit Loop box this morning, I get to visit several wholesale flower companies today and when I get home this evening I will have seven cats and kittens to make me laugh.

PLEASE adopt sweet, squeezable, lovable little Brooklyn here!

oh so pretty

While paroozing the internet I usually find myself thinking things like: how did I ever live without this newly discovered Willie Nelson throw pillow. Or while making daily visits to my much-loved wedding blogs I can’t help but to think things like: man, if only I had added that uber creative “our family tree” sign-in to my wedding…
Last week I spotted this classic and oh so sophisticated Monique Lhuillier wedding dress and couldn’t stop staring… yep, still oogling and still L-O-V-I-N-G it. So much so that I just had to share.

sweet cakes

We all know Mondays can be rough. So here’s my attempt to make this Monday a little bit sweeter… I'll take one of each, please.

a free weekend

Out and about and exploring new parts of Austin, hanging out with friends, date day with my mister and NO WORK… hope you, too, have a magnificent weekend!

no plastic sporks!

Summer brings outdoor, casual weddings. Casual weddings bring serve-yourself-dinner lines. Serve- yourself-dinner lines bring plastic utensils. But don’t fall victim to generic cafeteria style sporks! This is the perfect time to let your creativity show by not over look little details that will make your event spectacular. Wrap them in colorful napkins, find paper bags to fit utensils and print your own image, create a placemat with a cleaver design…

splash of color

Bright, cheery and fun...

flip flops and shorts...

...fun on the lake, free music concerts nearly every day of the week, temps likely exceeding 100 and backyard BBQs only mean one thing… it’s summer time! Okay-okay, so maybe in Texas it feels like summer 9 months out of 12, but today kicks off the official summer season. And with that, I bring you a week of summer inspiration…

adopt a pet

Warning: This message may come across like an ASPCA advertisement. We’ve all seen them. And I’m sure we all cried the first time we sat through the agonizing thirty minute {or so it seemed} commercial then trained ourselves to change the channel quickly once we heard a Sara McLaughlin or Willie Nelson tune on the tube.

Tis the season for kittens! I know the Williamson County Animal Shelter is packed, nearly to capacity, with older cats to baby kittens, all of which need a loving home. Due to the huge influx of kittens this year the shelter is unable to find homes quickly enough to keep up with the needs of the cats. So this is where you come into play. I know not everyone can adopt, but you can spend time and play with kittens at the shelter for just a few hours a week or foster a litter for a month, until they are healthy and old enough to be adopted. I have three cats of my own and am now foster mom to these four socially awkward and too young to adopt kittens. Give me a month and these cuties will be the cuddliest, yet self-sufficient cats up for adoption.

Looking to adopt or volunteer? Then go here!

once in a lifetime

There are some things in life that you think you’ll never witness. BUT then you turn on the TV to see that David Hasselhoff really did return to recapture his role of Snapper on The Young and Restless. Or while cruising the internet, your eyes pop out of your head when you discover that IKEA really can look good…

a modestly fancy bloom

Sometimes the simplest things in life are the most beautiful. Gathered and used in clusters, the new found appreciation of baby’s breath is a welcomed addition to the modernized wedding world. Perfect for any style of wedding from vintage to rustic, baby’s breath will add the perfect amount of “old money” humbleness {aka discreetly rich while still keeping it reasonable}.

succulent love

So what if you are going “simple” for your wedding décor. It’s still important to focus on the details that make your event unique. My rule of thumb is to not skimp on two things: linens and flowers. These two elements of a wedding can convey the look and feel you hope to achieve in such simple ways.

{To make your event stand out from ALL the others don’t use the soiled white linens supplied to you by the wedding venue. Upgrade the linens to add color or texture. I would also advise to not have family or friends fill in for a floral designer. Chances are this will create some major drama. I speak from experience.}

Excuse me, now that I’m off my soapbox, back to simple décor. If you are looking for understated cool and stylish alternatives to flowers then give succulents a try. Use succulents alone or add them to an arrangement. Either way they will add a simple-stylish-sophistication to your décor.

a cotton pickin' surprise

I’m not trying to be coy when I say this, so please take it seriously: I hate surprises. I really hate surprises. I’m not the spontaneous kind. Never have and never will. I need notice {hours in advance, please} if you want me to turn on {and in rare cases off} my chatterbox with friends or put on my big girl undies for risky adventures. For some reason, Justin doesn’t grasp this concept and still keeps “secrets” so I am “taken aback” by the big plans he thoughtfully orchestrated. I now love this about him, but it definitely took some getting used to.

But when it comes to simple materials used in unexpected ways, I’m joyful… and surprised, in a good way. These surprises I can handle and there is no advance notice needed. Lately, the use of cotton has caught my eye and I can’t wait until cotton season to play with this quirky and fun raw material.

bffs in bfe

What a week! My goal next week: blog. Monday thru Friday. Rain or shine. Busy or REALLY busy. I have already prepared new inspiration boards that I can’t wait to share. Until then, I’m off on a short road trip to bfe {no joke. We were warned “don't map quest the exact location, you won't find it”} with my bffs from college. A weekend of slumber parties, carefree fun and laughter is just what I we all need!

dress it up... or down

Okay, let’s get real. Not all of us that stalk wedding blogs are getting married. But just because we aren’t shopping for that special white dress made just for us that will make all our guests’ jaws drop at first sight doesn’t mean we don’t need a new dress. You know, that go to dress for any occasion that can be dressed up and worn to a wedding or dressed down for a casual slacker Sunday with friends. This is where we all should say “I do to JCrew”…

a short hiatus

Well, that was unexpected. A week passed without a new blog post. Trust me when I say, it wasn’t due to lack of subject or inspiration ideas {those flow through my head practically 24/7}. Ever since Memorial Day weekend the shop has been slammed with weddings and graduation parties, which is great fantastic but I have hardly found the time to take a breather while working nearly 14 days straight as we have also been planning Sweet Sunday Events’ next big move {more of that coming in the next few weeks}.

Since we last spoke I’ve eaten one year old wedding cake while in my wedding dress, visited a quiet Texas town, been to the Serengeti, watched and flinched as ducks {successfully!} dodge traffic, learned that I have an audience of cats observing my every move as I sew, been surprised with a trip {for our first chance of freedom from the shop}, bought a dust devil, sweated at least 10 lbs off on Sunday { I don’t need a scale to tell me this, I just know}, designed seven fabulous tables with amazing floral arrangements {more on that later}, had a runaway cat that finally returned after a long 24 hrs, been crafty, a neglectful friend {but that will all change come Friday!}…
