throwback treats

My buddy, Paige, owner and creative baker of Paige’s Bakehouse, stopped by the studio yesterday, hands full of sweets. My heart-a-fluttered, I sighted whoopie pies... WHOOPIE PIES, I freakin' love whoopie pies!

I’ve always said my dream cake would be Little Debbie Swiss Rolls or of Zebra Cakes stacked, in the shape of a cake. Ohh my! My mouth is watering just thinking of such high-class, delectable desserts! Luckily for me {and my fellow Little Debbie lovers} a new trend popping up at weddings of gourmet versions of our childhood favorites. How about Chocolate Cupcakes…
Or grocery store finds (like donuts!)...

austin bridal show 2011

I’ve been meaning to upload some shots we took of our booth at the Bridal Extravaganza in Austin a couple weekends ago. Since it’s on my mind today, today will be the day that I share with those of you who missed out on our spectacular booth setup which included a few of my favorites…

1. Burlap- I love the addition of burlap in nearly every design
2. Vintage Flair- From the hanging globes to the Victorian sofa
3. FLOWERS- A floral runner, to be clear!
Okay, I've got to get back to setting up for our vintage rentals shoot{yay, you no longer will have to wonder what we have in our collection of lovelies-- soon we will have a whole new page devoted to vintage rentals!}, as Rachel continues to recover our "new" dining chairs with vintage grain sacks! Happy Weekend!

finally, i can share...

One IN.SANE. Wedding! Shelby and Daniel’s wedding was completely and utterly insane—in a good way, of course! I lucked out BIG time on this wedding. From working with such a creatively open minded bride and groom, the most blissful guests I have ever seen and a photographer to die for… I could not have asked for more!

Shelby had me at “Anthropologie”. Her vision was clear and it didn’t take us long to jump on board. She wanted her flowers the colors in a grapefruit. She wanted family heirlooms and other antique pieces used in each of her 55 centerpieces. She knew she wanted her wedding to be different, a wedding that each of her guests would not soon forget.

And five short months later we did just that, transforming a traditional ballroom and hotel hallways into a spread fit for the next Anthropologie catalogue. We pushed ourselves to use items in unconventional ways, like using shipping pallets stacked to mimic a stage; we dyed over 800 coffee filters to fill large shadow boxes and used yarn to create tailor made signs. Each turn of the hallway introduced an innovative and exciting art piece while the overall theme of chalkboards, yarn and frames connected each space to the next.

Now we get to relive this glorious night through the unbelievably talented lens of eephotgraphy

the unexpected

And Monday has arrived once again {too soon, I must add}. This weekend was great—friends and family, a concert and day trip to College Station. We even had the pleasure of setting up a lovely wedding at The Plant this past Saturday. I just might have a new favorite wedding venue—you have got to check it out for yourself! After par oozing The Plant’s website, come back to enjoy flowers in unexpected places...

get inspired: take4

I’ve enjoyed sharing my collection of things I’m {currently} obsessed with this week! Hopefully you have discovered ways to include some aspect of these inspiring ideas into your own wedding. BUT hold up! I’m not done quite yet, I’ve saved the BEST for last! You are going to flip over these incredible images, I mean, for real, marvelous. Alright, drum roll, please…

Who needs a fabric runner when flowers do the job so much better?!

I’m sure you are well aware of it by now, and possibly sick and tired of hearing about my love affair with succulents. So, I pledge that after today I will {try my hardest to} stop gabbing about succulents-- mostly because a new love has come along! You may have heard of this new and ultra hip design ingredient called Air Plants…

get inspired: take2

Remember back in the day when all we had to live for was art time in elementary school? Ooookay, so maybe it that was just me! Art was by far my favorite time of the week—it was usually on Fridays and I made sure it continued throughout  the weekend, as I was content to stay at home sewing sequins and beads on a fabric calendar or making friendship bracelets. But when it came to water coloring, I was not a fan, at all. I hated how the colors bled and my paper became all wavy after the water and color was applied—so annoying!  Boy, oh boy, have the times ahh-changed, water coloring is no longer just for the kids and I have to admit my a new fascination with it-- from paper design to floral design and cakes, it's a new trend I don't mind seeing more of...

get inspired: take1

I get bored easily, especially with design. This is how it usually happens… I discover something new and exciting, I obsess over it for a period of time while other are just beginning to discover the same love that I share, and then it blows up and everyone {or so it seems}  is following the hottest new design trend and by that time I’m over it {like, completely over it!}.This vicious circle continues with my new admiration for the zig-zag pattern..
