what's been going on

It’s about time I dive back into blogging, don’t ya think?! Honestly, I’m damned near confused at where to even begin. Wedding season has been nuts. Seriously, nutty {but so enjoyable!}. In between back to back weddings for the past 2 months, I was actually able to squeeze in a surprise 30th birthday party for my mister, celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary, found one day to lake it up with the family, went to 2 movies {TWO!} and discovered a new fav restaurant and cocktail… oh, and partook in a handful of photo shoots—one in particular I can’t get enough of {more to come on that later}.

Ahh, geez, and through all that word vomit, is still don’t know where to begin! Maybe I’ll just share with you our latest big-time blog features and then go into more detail of each amazing wedding in the coming days? Yeah, I think that just might work...

a touch of country

Shootin’ the breeze {usual topic of choice: hunting or fishing}, the sound of hog- dogs barking in the background, BBQ and a cold one, hand canned pickles and an endless supply of sweet tea are just a few of the reasons why I love visiting my Dad’s huge family.  Humbled and proud, simple and chic with a touch of country… there’s no better combination.

favorite {idea} friday

Austin Film Festival AND Austin Beer Week! My mind may still be reeling after the viewing of the bizarre and disturbing Black Swan film, but all in all, it was a fantastic week to return to the real world. This week {over on Once Wed}, a DIY wedding flooded the pages of the super cute wedding blog and is now burned permanently into my mind. In sharing, I hope to spread the inspiring and unique idea that will surely be a treasure for years to come…
During the bridal shower, guests helped in creating the ahhhh-mazing Tree of Life quilt... Gifts don't get much better than this! Find more info here.

hocus pocus

Ghosts and Goblins, Lady Gagas and Katy Perrys… YIKES, spoooooky! I can’t believe Halloween is this weekend. For the first time in four years my front yard isn’t decked out with skeletons, bats or spiders... the kids in my neighborhood should be very disappointed in me. But maybe I made up for the lack of home Halloween spirit in my shop, as the main table is loaded with yarn wrapped pumpkins, gold candelabras and eyeball wrapped napkins. Here’s to a Happy Halloween…

favorite {wedding} friday

Some times there are weddings posted throughout the blogosphere that do absolutely nothing for me. Either it’s way too overdone or too simple, that I find it boring. BUT then there are other days that make my addiction to wedding blogs totally worth wasting away my lunch break behind a computer screen. These weddings pop from the screen and will forever be etched in my mind. Here’s my favorite from this week…

Isn't the use of paper surprisingly fantastic?! Hop on over to 100 Layer Cake for more photos of this unique wedding. Happy {ACL} weekend to you all!

a chance of rain

The days leading up to my wedding were rainy. Most brides would curl up in the fetal position a cry their selves to sleep because there was a chance that their perfect day was about to be washed away. But I didn’t freight. I didn’t want a change of venue. I didn’t care if my immaculate dress got muddy or if my hair went flat. I was getting married... nothing could ruin that! The only back up I had was to purchase a few clear “bubble” umbrellas from Target that my guests and wedding party could huddle under during the ceremony. Thankfully {and fortunately so}, it turned out to be a beautifully sunny no-need-for-umbrellas kind of day.
What I’m saying is: roll with it. If it rains grab some super stylish umbrellas and get married!

pretty little backdrops

Sometimes you need a little something extra to extenuate the aisle and capture your guests’ attention. I’m thinking {at least} one of these just might work in captivating your interest…

autumn inspires

You wouldn’t believe the perfect finds and little treasures we discovered for our humble abode and Sweet Sunday Events while at Round Top's Marburger Farm Antique Show. We learned to avoided shops with a roof and floor, those only meant steeper prices. I liked the tents. Better yet, the tents with weathered, pealed items full of dust strewn about without any rhyme or reason… ahhh, those were the best. What an amazing weekend of wonderful weather and overwhelming {in a good way!} antiquing… I couldn’t have ask for anything more… so with that, I welcome you, the month of October!

imperfect perfection

It’s strange. I am normally a perfectionist. I like things to match. I like symmetry.  And I hate when something’s out of place-- boy, does that drive me crazy. {Clearly, I run a tight ship around the house… my poor husband!} But when it comes to designing a look I all of that goes straight out the window.  I’m inspired by the flawed. A little rust, a few scratches and peeling paint can sometimes make an object so beautifully imperfect. The mix and match of items that don’t look so great as they stand alone, but together they fit oh-so perfectly to complete the look. That’s what I love about design.

fall formality

Did you know the first day of Fall is just around the corner? September 22, to be exact. But in my mind, summer ends once school begins. So farewell to a summer of bright colors and casual affairs, and hello to deeper tones and more formal gatherings.

a week in update

What a busy, jumbled week this turned out to be… TGIfinallyF! I may have thought Wednesday was Thursday and Thursday was Friday, but still found a way to be pretty productive {between prepping-n-working the bridal show, going venue shopping with my good friend and changing all my display tables—the shop has never looked better, btw!} in the midst of my confusion. For those of you who missed it, here’s a look-see of our setup during Wednesday’s bridal show…

Happy weekend, y'all!

lighting by lanterns

Ohhh-Ahhh, we have these too...
These rustic, yet elegant multi purpose lanterns are probably my favorite piece of inventory we carry. I loved them so much, that I used them in my very own wedding. And get this... the rental price is only $5.00 for the small and $10.00 for the large... you can't beat that!

whirly fun

H{aaaa}y! We have these…

Strung from the ceiling, tree or placed on a table... Used with candles or flowers... Whirly candleholders are a great addition to any event, especially with a rental price of $1.00 each!

summer loving

As most people complain about the Texas heat, I smile. Because I love summer. This past weekend I spotted my first firefly of the season while enjoying Annie in Zilker Park, I’ve attended several free music nights out with many left to experience {including The Trishas and Amy Cook--oooobsessed!}, used and abused springs and watering holes around the Hill Country and, of course, had a few concoctions in backyards and porches. I’m telling ya--summer is great! I hope this inspiration board makes you smile and think of summer-y goodness.

shoulda, coulda, woulda

I shoulda had this updated version of a guestbook at my wedding {considering we were married under a 400 yr oak and a tree was a reoccurring theme throughout our wedding}. I totally coulda if I had more time in between grad school burnout and typical wedding stressors and obligations. Goodness, I woulda treasured it forever! Oh well, what can I do?! Here are a few images I recently saw of the family tree/thumbprint guest sign-in...

bohemian flair

Maybe it’s because it runs through in my blood {as a Czech} or my slight interest of disregarding traditional or conventional norms of behavior. Wherever this may stem from, I appreciate it and can’t help but get giddy-energized-thrilled when I see loosely design flowers mixed with eclectic and unusual accent pieces that just scream BOHEMIAN!

color and charm

Becha haven’t seen old school paper links since elementary art period. Well, I’m on a personal mission to bring them back… at least for this tablescape! If you learn anything from this design let it be: 1.) you can never go wrong with the addition of natural elements {in this instance; burlap}, 2.) keep colors simple for a cohesive look and 3.) HAVE FUN WITH IT! Weddings do not need to be formal, stuffy affairs. Infuse your own personal style through the little details. These are the things that will make your event beyond spectacular.
