playing dress up
Calling all brides {and their bridesmaids}: Stop by Melange Bridal this weekend for the Matthew Christopher trunk show. The designer, himself, in the flesh, will be there eager to dress you. With the designer’s eye {literally} leading the way, how could you go wrong?! Oh, and while there, check out our pretty little table set up!

go away... to PR
Waking up before the alarm with a Shooter Jennings singing in my head, checking on the kitties to see there were no “messes” on the floor, stepping outside to feel cool air{in August!} and antiquing for unique vases and accent pieces then ending it at a neighborhood bar… a day couldn’t get much better. Well, wait. Unless I was in Puerto Rico. I’ve only been there once. Had a fan-freakin’-tastic good time. Fell in love with the people, food {plantains and yucca, yum!} and the white sand beaches. So if you are looking for the perfect honeymoon {or just a happy vacation away} location, the search is over. Go to Vieques, PR. Book it already... just go! And stay here.

web patrol
After a quick patrol of the web, I gathered the “OH WOW, LOOK AT THAT!” photos that I just had to share so I wouldn’t internally combust with intense joy…
Coulda {and definitely woulda} used all this on the river this weekend!
Who wouldn't love a hillside-bohemian wedding?!
Going camping... in this? Count me in!

my oasis
It’s only taken us three years of living in our home to add our personal flare to our front yard. Yard work has never been my specialty. Mostly because it’s always hot in Texas and I hate sweating. After becoming inspired by an episode of Curb Appeal: The Block, I sucked it up to tackle a huge mission to fix the eye sore that was our front yard. {Hey, I’m standing on my soapbox for a moment to say: those jerks over on HGTV fail to mention how much time the project really consumes or how many guys they have behind the scene making sure the renovation is completed in a day and completely mislead you on the estimated cost. Okay, I’m off.} Looking back at pictures of what our flower bed once looked like is a tad-bit embarrassing, but I’ll share it with you anyway…
After: Don't you just love the colors, succulents and {most of all} our lime tree?! I sure do!
I'm off to the river for the weekend with great girls I don't get to see near as often as I'd like! Enjoy your weekend and see you again Monday:)

Cake tasting could quite possibly be THE best part of planning a wedding, but with stunning cakes like these who cares what it tastes like!

it's a girl thing
The best part about being a girl: the freedom to squeal in public when something excites you. And this I did. Last week. At Walgreens. I had been searching for what seems to be a lifetime for a hair accessory that… 1. Would hold my thick hair up without falling within a minute or after taking two steps or turning my head side to side, 2. Wasn’t a hair tie or butterfly clip, since they both hurt my ridiculously sensitive scalp and 3. Would vanish and go undetected by the eye. So, I’m sure you could imagine my delight when, not only, did I finally concluded my lifelong hunt for this perfect product, but when I discovered it actually works… and works well! Okay, so maybe my newly found don’t-leave-the-house-without-it accessory isn’t near as couture or advant-garde as these AHHHmazing pieces, but it gets the job done while I'm dreaming about these...

little survivors
My little {foster} babies are one month old today! If you know me, you’d know I have a special place in my heart for black and white “milk cats” and if you’ve been to my house, you’ve seen that I have my own personal collection of milk cats {alright, only 2 + 1 grey and white wanna be}. And as luck would have it, one of the babies is just that… a milk cat. With a mustache! I mean, seriously, just take a look {the little runt on the left was a lotta sick at the time of this pic, but is all better now}…

a week in update
What a busy, jumbled week this turned out to be… TGIfinallyF! I may have thought Wednesday was Thursday and Thursday was Friday, but still found a way to be pretty productive {between prepping-n-working the bridal show, going venue shopping with my good friend and changing all my display tables—the shop has never looked better, btw!} in the midst of my confusion. For those of you who missed it, here’s a look-see of our setup during Wednesday’s bridal show…
Happy weekend, y'all!

soooo long monday
Well, hello, Monday. What was the rush? Today is almost over and until this moment {5pm}, I hadn't had the slightest chance to sit and blog. So now you must wait 'til tomorrow since "I'm just not in the mood {to blog}"! For now, enjoy my favorite decor blog... it puts a smile on my face each and every Monday. Oh, and mark your calendar...

the first steps
What a week we’ve had! Between connecting with some well established wedding professionals in and around Austin, promoting Sweet Sunday Events and contemplating future moves for our business while keeping up with upcoming orders has been interesting {to say the least}, but totally enjoyable even through the brief moments of freak out.
If you are just beginning your wedding planning journey {or even if you’ve been planning for weeks/months/years and find yourself lost and frustrated}, let me help guide you to the perfect, well skilled wedding experts…
On the hunt for the wedding dress you’ve been dreaming of ever since you were in diapers? Then there’s only one stop you need to make! Visit {the fun and easy to talk to} Nicole at Melange Bridal you won’t regret it. Oh, and take your bridesmaids with you… Melange has a great selection of bridesmaid dresses {mine got theirs there!}.
Have you chosen your venue yet? Well, get on it! I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but don’t you know venues book up to a year in advance?! You must go see LeAnne and George at Casa Blanca on Brushy Creek... open house is held every Wednesday from 6-8pm. It’s a beautiful oasis in the heart of Round Rock {but trust me, it feels miles away}.
Tired of the same-old-same-old boring wedding food? Then, gosh, I have the best caterer connection for you. The very hip and sweet Kassie and her husband/business partner, James, will help create the perfect culinary delight for you and your guests. Contact Catering with a Twist asap!
My best piece of advice to give is to let go... let designers help make decisions and make sure to align yourself with the crème de la crème wedding professionals to help you through the inherent ups and downs, smiles and frowns. It will make the planning process oh-so much better!
And a happy weekend to you!

it's an illness
I have an addiction that I have been trying to shake for years now with no avail. It sure doesn’t help when I arrive at work to find the sent-monthly-just-to-tempt-me catalogue glistening {much like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow} on my desk. And then I’m gone, submerged in the “I gotta have” and “I can’t live without” thoughts thanks to the freaking amazing, too-large-to-be-called-a-boutique of Anthropologie. Today I fell in love {again}…

lighting by lanterns
Ohhh-Ahhh, we have these too...
These rustic, yet elegant multi purpose lanterns are probably my favorite piece of inventory we carry. I loved them so much, that I used them in my very own wedding. And get this... the rental price is only $5.00 for the small and $10.00 for the large... you can't beat that!

whirly fun
H{aaaa}y! We have these…
Strung from the ceiling, tree or placed on a table... Used with candles or flowers... Whirly candleholders are a great addition to any event, especially with a rental price of $1.00 each!

commission modern byrd
A couple of weeks ago I subtly introduced you to a great artist and her work while sharing great gifts ideas. But today, I will step it up to boast about what a fantastic creator of all things art this little lady is. Okay, so maybe I’m biased since she is my best friend, but I know great work when I see it and Brooke {the artist behind Modern Byrd Designs} is the real deal! The Art History graduate now specializes in custom made paper portraits. She takes an ordinary photo from your special day and then recaptures it through the use of paper. Read more about her paper designing journey here. How someone can be so patient while working with such teeny-tiny-nearly microscopic objects is beyond me. All I know is that I am thankful she can because without her we would be missing out on specialty, one of a kind pieces to be treasured for a lifetime.
A year ago come November, our friends Andrew and Ashley wed in Austin on the beautiful property of Laguna Gloria. Needless to say, the wedding was absolutely stunning {as were the bride a groom- pictured below}!
Brooke took nearly every aspect of their wedding and recreated it in paper form. Speechless? Breathtaking? Yeah, I think so.
You, too, can stalk Brooke's creations through her etsy page, follow her blog and/or contact her to create your very own masterpiece at ModernByrdDesigns@gmail.com.
